About the Show
- What is The New Avengers?
The New Avengers is a sequel to the sixties British series, The Avengers, which ran from 1961-1969.
It starred Patrick Macnee as the bowler-hatted agent John Steed, who solved mysteries and fought enemy spies with a sucession of mostly-female partners, the most famous of which was Diana Rigg as Mrs. Emma Peel.
TNA was a revival of the show. It starred Patrick, as well as two younger colleagues, Gareth Hunt as Mike Gambit, and Joanna Lumley as Purdey. It ran from 1976-1977, for a total of 26 episodes.
- Is is available on DVD?
Yes, it is. Two sets, one for each of the two seasons, are available from A&E in region one, and two region 2 English collections have also been released, the later Optimum set prefereable for its commentaries from Brian Clemens, the creator of the series, and Gareth Hunt.
It's also available in two French sets, with extras. If you check Amazon or ebay, you should be able to find a set fairly easily.

About the Site
- Why just The New Avengers?
Because it's been the focus of my interest concerning the series for the past few years. Also because there are very few exclusively TNA site out there. Many sites have now incoporated TNA in as a genuine part
of the show's history after years of trying to pretend it didn't exist. But it's still underrepresented compared to other eras of the show--very little in the way of fiction, videos, or much of anything has been available.
That's been changing in recent years, and I wanted a place to focus just on TNA for a change, something that showcase what it had to offer. Also because there's a lot of material out there about TNA that hasn't been written about countless times. It's one of the few sources of fresh info.
- Why call it "Anew"?
For a number of reasons. Mostly because TNA was a revival of the show. Also, the first Dave Rogers book which dealt with the series in any great detail was called The Avengers Anew. And because of one of the earliest stories in my arc, the still-being-written "Anew"
dealing with Purdey, Gambit, and Steed's first assignment together, and the fresh start in their lives as a result. I could also cobble together a passable title image using scans from TNA stuff--right letters!
- What did you use to make the site?
I've long wanted to design my own site, and because web design is one of my hobbies, I wanted to use it to brush up on my HTML skills, so almost the entire site is hand-coded using HTML and CSS. In some cases I've borrowed code (all from sources
where the code had been created specifically for the use of others. No stealing!). I've also used a touch of my favourite pagebuilder, Macromedia Dreamweaver 2004, for a couple of more complicated things. All the images are edited in Macromedia Fireworks 2004.

About Submissions
- Can I submit images to the archive?
Yes, although with a few caveats. I'd prefer they were good quality, and also on the rarer side. I'd rather they weren't simply yanked from one of the Dave Rogers books, for one.
I have access to many more pictures than I've posted here from books, but I've chosen to leave those out and focus on images from magazines and fanzines, newspapers, and actual 8x10's. Also, check to make sure that the image you want to submit isn't already available here!
Clearly, it should also be a TNA-related image. I'd prefer it if shots of cast members, such as Joanna Lumley, were actually from the period in and around the series' production. I'm not saying I won't post anything from after or before the show, but I'd prefer to keep the focus on TNA. Shots of Gareth
tend to be rarer, so I'm more likely to post those, but it'd be very easy for this to slip into a site focussing on Joanna's career. Don't get me wrong. I love her other work, but again, this is meant to be a TNA site. Bottom line is, I reserve the right to decide what gets posted and what doesn't. There are no real hard and fast rules,
and I'd love it if people shared their stuff. It can't hurt to try! :-)
- Can I submit articles/interviews?
Yes, with the same caveats as above. I'll be happy to post them even if they're not in English, although if you can provide a translation, that's even better!
- Can I submit videos?
Yes, in that I will link your video. I have nowhere to host them, however, so they'll have to be uploaded elsewhere. I also won't link videos that are simply uploaded copies of the episodes. The episodes are available on DVD, and I'd really
prefer it if people bought them to let distributors know that there's still interest in the show! Uploaded episodes also tend to come in for copyright violation and are often removed, so I won't take those. However, if you have any fan compilations/music videos, I'll be happy to link those, or if you've got access to a good interview/documentary/whatever,
I'll link that as well. Again, try to keep them TNA-focussed. An Absolutely Fabulous interview with Joanna is lovely, but isn't really TNA-related.
- Can I submit my own fiction?
Yes, I will link or, in certain cases, host your fiction, again with the caveat that it be TNA fiction. Anything that focuses on Purdey or Gambit, even if it doesn't take place during the show, is fine. Written a piece about Gambit in the Navy, or Purdey's Royal Ballet stint? Great! Love to read it.
Ditto anything set during or around the show. Things get sticky when it comes to Steed. If you've written something obviously set in TNA's timeline, even if it's not heavy on Purdey and Gambit, it's TNA fic, but a story starring Steed and Emma set in 1967 isn't. I'm trying to keep this
TNAcentric, so again, I reserve the right to decide what gets posted and what doesn't. Also, if your fic has a particularly high rating for some reason, I'd like to be warned in advance, and whether I post it will be up to my discretion.
- Will you beta my fiction?
If you want me to, I will, with the understanding that I have to have the time to do so. For the most part, I'm happy when people write stuff about the show, because it's so rare, and I want to help if I can,
but I do get busy, and that means hobbies take a back seat. If you want me to beta something you've written, by all means, let me know, and I'll do my best to help.
- Will you link my site?
Yes, if it's related to TNA, its actors, or the original in some way. The more TNA the better. Even if it's your Livejournal of TNA fic, bring it on. Again, with the understanding that I reserve the right not to link anything I think doesn't quite fit the profile, or is inappropriate.

About the Videos
- What do you use to make the videos?
I use a free program called DVD Shrink to cut the clips, and Windows Movie Maker to construct the actual videos.
- How long do they take to make?
Depends on the length of the video, and how hard it is to find clips. Also what the editing requirement is. But several hours in any case.

About the Archive
- Where do you get the stuff for the archive?
It all comes from my personal collection, mostly found on ebay, but occasionally in shops if I'm lucky enough.
- Do you have such-and-such an item/article/etc.?
For the most part, my entire collection is up, with the exception of those items that are fairly common and available elsewhere, either to buy or read. I don't scan, say, the annuals because you can pick up
a copy fairly cheaply on ebay, but if there's enough demand for something like that, I'll upload it. I draw the line at complete novels, though!

About the Writings
- How long have you been writing?
I started writing TNA fic after seeing the series in 2001, so perhaps a year or so later? I can't recall exactly, but I do still have my first-ever TNA fic. It will never be published, although the concept is currently being rewritten as part of the arc. I wrote for a few years after that, then
stopped for the most part. In 2005 I penned "Merry Christmas, Mr. Gambit," which is the oldest piece to survive pretty much intact. I then wrote "See You Fall" in 2006. In November of that year I gave it to another fan to read, and she has since inspired me to write seriously again and betaed my other fics. I've since
been working through all the ideas I've had in seven years of loving this show. I'm still writing stories for Purdey and Gambit, gradually whittling down that pool of ideas, but remarkably, it seems to keep replenishing itself.

About Me
- So who's behind the site?
A TNA fan since 2001, I'm a Canadian Anglophile who's been delving further into British pop culture ever since. TNA and its forebear remains my favourite, however. I'm a fan of Gambit in particular, and in my opinion he more or less made the show.
He's much more than the muscle, and often gets the short end of the stick. I've been writing fic to give the poor guy happy endings ever since.
